"Hurray! Hurray! To-day is the Queens Birthday." We used to say that on this day
when I was a young lad in Capreol, Ont. We would have a sports day, races and
all that stuff, on the main street of town, no less. Don't think I knew which Queen
they were referring to. But it was Queen Victoria. And on this day one year from
to-day will be her bi-centennial. To get used to that, in a few months [July-August
of this year], will be the bi-centennial of present day Ottawa. Of course in 1818
there was no Ottawa, but the initial settlement of any size was in Richmond and
Goulbourn Township. As I have mentioned there were about 181 ex-soldiers and
a number of civilians for a total of 454 settlers, by my count.
I am slow in posting to my blog and will try and speed up soon. Gardening and
such and I seem to have more than normal appointments. Making others rich.
